☠️ Type Guide · Cobblemon v1.7.1

Where Do Poison Type Pokémon Spawn?

Poison types thrive in the world's darker corners — murky swamps, overgrown forests, dark caves and polluted waterways. They're one of the most common types in early-game exploration, but some of the nastier ones hide in dense vegetation or come out at night.

Quick Answer

🌿 Swamps 🌲 Dense Forest 🕳️ Caves 24 Poison Types Total

Poison types are spread across swamp biomes, dense forest floors, cave systems and overgrown areas. Common ones like Ekans and Nidoran appear early in grassland and plains exploration. The stronger lines like Gengar's chain or Muk favour darker, more enclosed environments — sewers, caves and heavy vegetation.

How Poison Type Spawning Works

Poison types in Cobblemon are tied to environments that feel damp, overgrown or murky. Swamp biomes are the single best hunting ground for variety — you'll find multiple poison lines clustered there. Dense forest biomes run a close second, especially at night when the nocturnal species come out.

A key split with poison types is land versus underground. Ekans, Nidoran and Bellsprout are surface spawners that prefer open vegetation. Grimer and the Gastly line lean heavily into dark, enclosed spaces. Then there's a third group — the bug-poison types like Spinarak and Weedle that hug forest floors and tall grass edges.

☠️
Swamps are the poison type's home turf If you're specifically hunting poison types, swamp and mangrove biomes offer the highest density. You'll encounter Ekans, Croagunk, Gulpin, Bellsprout and Tentacool-adjacent spawns all within the same area.
💡
Night makes a big difference for poison hunts Several poison types only appear or have much higher spawn rates after dark — especially Gastly, Haunter, Spinarak and Zubat. If you're exploring caves or forests during the day and coming up empty, try returning at night.

Poison Types by Biome

Different environments host different poison type clusters. Here's where to focus your search depending on what you're hunting.

🌿
Swamp & Mangrove
Best overall poison variety

Swamp biomes are the clear number-one destination for poison type hunting. Bellsprout, Gulpin, Croagunk and Grimer all cluster here. Mangrove swamps add Mareanie to the mix in warmer variants. If you want to tick off multiple poison lines quickly, this is your starting point.

🌲
Forest & Jungle
Night hunting especially productive

Dense forests host Oddish (night), Spinarak (night) and the Gastly chain after dark. During the day, Weedle, Budew and Foongus can be found on forest floors. Jungle biomes boost Bellsprout spawns significantly. This is the best biome type for building a mixed grass-poison team.

🕳️
Caves & Underground
Zubat, Koffing, Gastly chain

Caves are home to Zubat (common at night), Koffing and the Grimer line. Deeper cave systems improve your odds of finding Haunter. Gengar is possible in deep underground areas but is a genuinely rare encounter — bring plenty of Poké Balls.

🌾
Plains & Grasslands
Nidoran family, Ekans

Open plains are the easiest place to find Ekans, Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ — all common spawns here. Toxel also shows up in plains and settlement-adjacent areas. These are your go-to early poison catches before you start exploring more specialised terrain.

🌊
Ocean & Coastal Water
Qwilfish, Mareanie

The water-poison types need specific ocean hunting. Qwilfish can be found in rivers and oceans but is a rare encounter. Mareanie is tied to warm ocean and coral reef biomes — look for it in tropical or warm ocean variants rather than cold oceans.

Tips for Hunting Poison Types

Start with swamp biomes If you need poison types early and efficiently, head straight to the nearest swamp. You'll find Bellsprout, Gulpin and Croagunk all in one location without having to bounce between biomes.
🌙
Come back at night for ghost-poison lines Gastly, Haunter and the rarer Gengar are almost exclusively nocturnal. If you're after the Gengar line, plan for a cave or abandoned structure run after sunset — daytime exploration won't cut it.
⚠️
Muk is rare — don't expect a fast find Muk can appear in swamp depths and cave floors at night, but it's a very rare spawn. Most players end up evolving Grimer rather than finding a wild Muk. Focus on finding Grimer first and evolving at level 38.
