Quick Answer
Bug types are the easiest type to find in the early game. Forests, flower meadows, jungles and tall grass are all loaded with them during the day. For tougher lines like Scyther, Heracross or Shedinja, you'll need to target specific biomes — but for a quick bug catch, almost any forested area will do.
How Bug Type Spawning Works
Bug types are the most biome-generalist type in Cobblemon. Unlike rock or steel types that need very specific terrain, most bug types will appear across any forest, jungle or grassy area. The main variables are time of day and forest density — daytime forests give you caterpillars and beetles, nighttime forests flip to moths, crickets and web-spinners.
The rarer bug types have more specific needs. Scyther wants tall grass and open meadows, Heracross is tied to tree-heavy jungle areas, and Shedinja requires evolving Nincada rather than a direct spawn. A handful of bug types also double as poison types and are covered in the poison guide too.

Bug Types by Biome
Bug types are everywhere, but some biomes are significantly better than others for specific lines. Here's where to focus your search.
Standard forests are the single best starting point for bug types. Caterpie, Weedle, Wurmple, Spinarak, Pineco and Nincada all spawn here across different times of day. Dense forest interiors also push Joltik and Karrablast spawns. If you're after variety over specific targets, forests win every time.
Jungle biomes are where bug hunting gets serious. Heracross, Pinsir, Yanma and Paras all appear here, along with Volbeat and Illumise in jungle clearings at night. Jungle is the only reliable place to find Heracross without trading — it's worth making the trip if you want that line.
Open flower biomes host some of the prettiest and most useful bugs. Scatterbug, Combee, Ledyba and Burmy are common here during the day. Scyther also prefers tall grass and open meadow terrain — this is one of the more reliable places to find it without deep jungle runs.
Water-adjacent bug types are limited but worth knowing. Surskit is the main target here — it spawns on ponds and slow rivers during the day. Yanma can also appear near warm swampy water. Neither is common, but wetland areas are the only consistent place to find Surskit without luck-based forest spawns.
Most bug types avoid caves, but Joltik is a cave specialist — it clings to cave ceilings and walls and can be found underground throughout the day. Durant is the other cave bug type, appearing in rocky tunnels and badlands cave systems. It's rare but worth the effort for a steel-bug type.
