🦅 Type Guide · Cobblemon v1.7.1

Where Do Flying Type Pokémon Spawn?

Flying types are the most visible Pokémon in the world — they patrol open skies above plains, coast clifftops, circle mountain peaks and nest in forest canopies. Most are daytime spawners, but a few owls and bats flip nocturnal once the sun goes down.

Quick Answer

🌾 Plains ⛰️ Mountains 🏖️ Coasts 28 Flying Types Total

Flying types spawn almost everywhere above ground level, but the best concentrations are in open plains, mountain peaks, forest canopies and coastal cliffs. Common birds like Pidgey and Taillow appear in any open biome. For larger, rarer birds like Braviary or Mandibuzz, you'll need to head to windswept highlands or specific biome variants.

How Flying Type Spawning Works

Flying types in Cobblemon spawn at higher Y-levels than most other types — they prefer open air above the terrain rather than ground level. This means they're most visible in open biomes like plains and savannas where there's nothing blocking the sky. In dense forests, flying types tend to be rarer because the canopy interrupts their spawn zone.

The main split in flying types is common birds versus large raptors. Pidgey, Taillow, Starly and Fletchling are everywhere — small, fast-spawning birds that populate almost any open area. Larger birds like Braviary, Mandibuzz and Staraptor are significantly rarer and require more specific elevation or biome conditions. There's also a small nocturnal group — Hoothoot, Noctowl and Zubat — that only appear once the sun sets.

🦅
Look up, not down Flying types spawn above the terrain surface. If you're not seeing any, try moving into a more open area with clear sky exposure — dense canopy biomes suppress flying spawns significantly. Plains, beaches and mountain ridges are your best bet.
💡
Mountain peaks unlock the rarest birds Braviary, Mandibuzz and Noivern all favour high-elevation terrain. If you want those lines, target extreme hills, mountain peaks and windswept highlands rather than flat plains. The higher the Y-level, the better your chances.

Flying Types by Biome

While flying types appear almost everywhere, certain biomes concentrate specific lines. Here's where to focus for particular targets.

🌾
Plains & Open Fields
Best variety — multiple common lines

Open plains are flying type central. Pidgey, Spearow, Taillow, Starly and Fletchling all spawn here during the day, making plains the easiest biome to find a variety of bird Pokémon quickly. Natu also appears in savanna-style plains. If you just need a flying type and don't care which one, head to any open field.

⛰️
Mountains & Highlands
Skarmory, Aerodactyl, Braviary, Swablu

Mountain biomes host the flying type's elite tier. Skarmory, Aerodactyl and Braviary all require elevated terrain — mountain peaks, extreme hills and windswept highlands. Swablu is more accessible here too, drifting around highland flower areas. This is the destination if you want a strong, evolved flying type for your team.

🏜️
Badlands & Windswept Hills
Vullaby, Mandibuzz territory

The dark-flying vulture line — Vullaby and Mandibuzz — favours dry, harsh terrain. Badlands, windswept hills and arid highlands are their home. Vullaby is uncommon here, Mandibuzz very rare. This is also where the Honchkrow line ends up at night if you're specifically hunting that dark-flying combination.

🌊
Lakes, Rivers & Coasts
Ducklett, coastal birds

Ducklett is the main water-flying type to find here, skimming rivers, lakes and coastal waters during the day. It's uncommon but relatively consistent along any sizeable waterway. Farfetch'd also appears near water in plains biomes — it's worth checking river edges when you're passing through open terrain.

🕳️
Caves & Underground
Woobat, Noibat, Noivern

A few flying types have adapted to cave life. Woobat is the most accessible — it appears throughout cave systems at any time. Noibat is a rare night encounter in deeper caves, and Noivern is very rare, also nocturnal. These three are the only flying types that spawn reliably underground.

Tips for Hunting Flying Types

Any open plains biome works for early birds You don't need to go far — the first open plains biome you find will have Pidgey, Spearow, Starly or Fletchling within minutes. All four are common daytime spawns and great early catches for flying type coverage.
🌙
Night shifts the whole roster After dark, the daytime birds disappear and nocturnal species take over. Hoothoot, Murkrow and Honchkrow replace the common sparrows and pigeons. If you want the owl or crow lines, wait for night and head to forested areas.
⚠️
Noivern requires patience and preparation Noivern is one of the rarest flying types — a nocturnal deep-cave spawn. Bring plenty of Ultra Balls and plan for a long session. Most players evolve Noibat (found more consistently at night in caves) rather than hunting wild Noivern directly.
