Ice types are tied entirely to cold biomes — frozen peaks, snowy taigas, ice spikes and frozen oceans. Unlike ghost or fire types, there's no time-of-day restriction, so you can hunt any time. The main challenge is simply finding and travelling to the right biomes — they're less common in world gen than desert or forest. Swinub is the easiest to find; Lapras and Cryogonal are the hardest.

How Ice Type Spawning Works

Ice types are the most biome-locked type in Cobblemon. Every ice type requires a genuinely cold biome — not just a "snowy" weather overlay, but a biome that's permanently frozen. That means Snowy Plains, Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks, Snowy Taiga, Grove, Ice Spikes, and Frozen Ocean variants.

The good news is there's no time-of-day restriction. Ice types spawn at any hour, so whenever you reach the right biome, you can start hunting immediately.

The bad news is cold biomes are rarer in world gen than most others. If you're playing on a normal seed without coordinates to a snowy region, you may need to travel a significant distance. Using a map mod or the F3 screen to check biome names is the fastest way to confirm you're in the right place.

Snowy weather ≠ ice type biome It can snow in Taiga and Windswept Hills biomes, but those aren't cold enough to spawn ice types. You need a specifically frozen biome — Frozen Peaks, Snowy Taiga, Ice Spikes, Grove. Check the biome name in F3, not just the weather.

Best Biomes for Ice Type Hunting

Ice types are spread across several cold biome variants. Here's which biome gives you the best return for each situation:

❄️ Frozen Peaks & Jagged Peaks

Best overall variety. Swinub, Sneasel, Cubchoo, Bergmite, Glalie, Abomasnow, Cryogonal all spawn here. The go-to if you want options.

🌲 Snowy Taiga & Grove

Best for common ice types. Snorunt, Snover, Cubchoo and Snom all appear here at solid rates. Easier terrain than peaks.

🧊 Ice Spikes

Best for rarer entries. Vanillite, Glalie, Cryogonal and Glaceon prefer this biome. Rare biome but high-value when found.

🌊 Frozen Ocean

Only place Lapras spawns. Deep Frozen Ocean gives a slightly better rate. Head here specifically if Lapras is your target.

Swinub is your fastest first catch If you need an ice type quickly, Swinub is the most common and spawns in Frozen Tundra and Snowy Plains — the most frequently generated cold biomes. It also evolves into Mamoswine, one of the strongest ground/ice types in the game.

Lapras is genuinely hard to find Lapras only spawns in Frozen Ocean and Deep Frozen Ocean biomes, which are rarer than standard ocean. It's also a very rare spawn within those biomes. Expect to spend significant time searching. Bring a boat.
